Lynton Holiday Cottage surroundings

An idyllic coastal setting in England’s ‘Little Switzerland’, Exmoor National Park on Devon’s ‘Heritage Coast’ and an ‘area of outstanding natural beauty’. In a relatively compact area there is a huge variety of landscapes – bracken covered combes, wide expanses of heather and grass moorland, spectacular cliffs and wooded river valleys with abundant wildlife.

This unique and romantic cottage, perfect for honeymoon/anniversaries, is in a prime spot overlooking its own garden and woods beyond. Surprisingly all village facilities are within a few hundred yards. Many guests park their car and forget it (buy cream teas not parking fees!). As well as not needing to drive miles for provisions, a meal or drink, there are spectacular walks from the doorstep. Its easy to find solitude even in high summer. Relax in the garden or on your sheltered, rustic balcony.

Royal Castle Lodge Facilities

Checked annually for quality and given 4 Star status, this listed C16th detached thatched cottage has ample easy parking and level access. A stable door leads into a cosy lounge/diner with exposed beams, comfy leather recliners, Freeview TV, DVD. Fully fitted galley style kitchen including full-sized fan oven, four ring hob, full size freezer etc.

Upstairs the bedroom includes a king-sized bed and another TV. The warm bathroom includes a large bath with ‘telephone type’ shower, shaver socket. All towels and linen included. Ample heating options throughout.

From Royal Castle Lodge

A 600yard walk down a zigzag path or a 500ft ride on the unique water-powered cliff railway leads to Lynmouth harbour with its gently bobbing boats and thatched cottages. By the beach is parkland with tennis, putting etc. Take the spectacular coast path towards Porlock usually passing groups of Exmoor ponies, or follow the river Lyn on the famous ‘Watersmeet walk’ passing rapids, waterfalls and still pools. A heron can often be seen looking for dinner! From the cottage take a half-hour walk along a surfaced cliff path with the possibility of seeing seals below. This leads to the Valley of Rocks with its moonscape, rock climbing possibilities, wild goats and ponies. The National Park is a walker's and scenery-lovers paradise also attractive to kayakers, surfers, horse-riders, mountain bikers (storage and routes available). For stargazers the National Park is now a ‘dark skies reserve’. For sun-worshippers the golden expanse of sand at Woolacombe is a short drive away. The area is very dog-friendly, plenty of sea and river splashing opportunities and all the pubs welcome dogs. We don’t charge for a dog who is welcome if kept downstairs.
